A Reminder to Look Ahead

A message from Katy Knox,
President of Bank of America Private Bank

No matter how carefully we plan for the future, we can’t predict how it will unfold. Consider the first six months of 2020.  The pandemic upended plans and jolted the markets, motivating many of us to re-think priorities. Meanwhile, our nation grapples with questions of race, equality and justice.

Preparing for uncertainty, and rising to meet the challenges posed by unforeseen events is something we do here at Bank of America every day. We recently announced a $1 billion, four-year initiative to accelerate work already underway to address racial inequality by helping to drive economic opportunity in communities of color.  On June 8, Brian Moynihan announced we will also be a founding partner of the Smithsonian’s “Race, Community, and our Shared Future” initiative.  This initiative will explore how Americans understand, experience and confront race, and how that is shaping our nation’s future. I am proud of our company for making these commitments, and for standing by our employees, clients and the communities we serve.

As we begin to think about the second half the year, it is a good time to reflect on the goals we had at the start of the year. Our Advisors remind me their most important conversations focus on the future, and the actions we should take today to provide for tomorrow. Whether focused on giving to those in need, retirement, education or the succession of a family business, these are good and necessary conversations. We should not be afraid to ask the question “how can I still achieve my goals?” The world has changed, and it may be that the plans we had in place need to change as well. In my view, there is no time like the present to get started on that work.

Stay safe, be well, and thank you for being a Private Bank client.
